As a full-time college student at an expensive, private university in DC paying her own way while working as a custom essay writing service writer, I am incredibly appalled at some of the comments here. Telling students to get a “J-O-B”? Between students I know here and friends at colleges across the nation, it’s the students who can afford to study on their parents’ dime who aren’t working; those who need money to help pay their way DO find a job. I realize it’s easy to hide behind an ignorant, antiquated idea that kids these days are just so darn ungrateful and spoiled, but this is 2011, not 1980. College-bound students in need of financial assistance know what kind of job market they’ll enter into in four or more years, and deserve more credit for using the brain they *do* (gasp!) have.

Similarly, it’s important for parents or college-bound students reading this column to understand that financial aid packages are largely based on how interested a student is in attending said institution. College admission officials bank on students overlooking so-so or just okay amounts of financial aid if it’s their top choice school, so the more a student wants to attend, the less money he or she is given. So applying early action or early decision, visiting and taking tours, and participating in interviews are all marked down on potential financial aid documents and are factored in to package decisions for the student.
