A recent article from Bloomberg BusinessWeek talks about the worsening student loan situation in the US:

“Students may be struggling with debt more than we knew, according to a team of five researchers at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. They explain that borrowers were late on $85 billion in student loans in the third quarter of 2011, which at face value is about 10 percent of the $870 billion in total outstanding student debt. While that rate is more or less in line with other forms of consumer debt like credit cards and mortgages, it is also “understated,” the team says, because not all student loans can be delinquent…”

“Receiving a scholarship has historically been regarded as a sign of academic achievement and success. Often people awarded scholarships were the cream of the crop, top 5% candidates. However these days there are so many more scholarships available and getting your hands on one is more of a science than an art…”  A good little guide has just been published by the authors at BusinessBecause.

Recent news on scholarships for women in BusinessBecause that talks about scholarships and inclusion at top business schools:

” This guide focuses on the special scholarship initiatives aimed at women who want to do an MBA. Figures reveal that more women are interested in attending business school and the percentage of women students who attend business school is on the rise. However, there is still an imbalance of sexes in boardrooms, on business school faculty and in classrooms.

Fortunately, b-schools are responding to this imbalance by making attending business school more appealing to women. Several of the top business schools have set goals to fill specific quotas for women students and are aggressively pursuing this through substantial scholarships or tuition waivers for women candidates.”
