Bloomberg Businessweek looked at the financial aid packages awarded by the 50 top ranked US undergraduate business programs to see who had the most generous programs. Bloomberg then ranked the schools based on what they call the discount rate (the amount of total costs covered by aid, specifically institutional scholarships and grants paid for directly by the school) and the number of students receiving such aid.  The top schools were:

1)  University of Tulsa
2)  Rensselaer Polytechnic University
3)  Fordham University
4)  Case Western Reserve University
5)  Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)

Too see the full ranking, click here.

So how does IE University stack up? Pretty well, in fact so well that it likely would be a top 5 school if there were an international version of the Financial Aid ranking.  Fully 60% of undergraduate business students (BBA degree candidates) receive financial assistance directly from IE Financial Aid.  Annual tuition at IE University for BBA students currently stands at 18.000€ per year (about US$22.750) plus about another 10.000€ (about US$12.650) – or grand total of US$35.400 for each of the 4 or 5 year degree. Average aid awarded was approximately 9.000€, or about 50% of tuition fees.  Grants are awarded based on financial need, academic excellence, IB scores and entrepreneurial initiative.

A good little article has just been published by the WSJ, which will be of special interest to US-based candidates coming to IE this Fall.  The article talks about the challenges US students face when funding their studies, and specifically about US federal loans:

“Federal student loans have long been the option preferred by most borrowers. But annual interest rates on many of these government loans range from 5% to 7.9% at a time when mortgages are going for around 3.5% or less…”  To see the full article, click here.

For US candidates IE offeres a wide range of program funding options, and we are also an approved school for Sallie Mae loans, which is offering rates similar to US federal loans.  To learn more about the Sallie Mae Smart Option Student Loans, check out see the web page here.  IE is able to offer student loans in US Dollars to all qualifying US students who come to IE, and for both Bachelor and Master programs.

More than 150 postgraduate students from all around the world have benefited from QS scholarships over the past six years. And there are now plans to extend the scheme to undergraduates.

QS is the only publisher of global rankings to devote some of the income from associated conferences and other activities to help outstanding students. The QS Education Trust was founded in 2005 and now has funds of more than $1.2 million to support students taking MBAs and other postgraduate programs.
